BENEFIT FOR ROCKET BOB

Don’t forget this Saturday May 12 is the party / gathering / benefit for Rocket Bob (Reno area art car genius, who suffered a stroke this spring) at Interpretive Gardens. Time is 4 pm to midnight. Place is 7777 White Fir St. (West Forth -> south on Woodland -> east on White Fir) Six bands plan to show up (Bag Pier Cyrus Luciano, The Atomics, Mad Scientist Club, Monkey Sauce, Surf Lords and Well Hung Barbarians). Sounds like it’s going to be a real dustup!

Kaki (359 3369) and Susan (747 2889) are still taking donations for the raffle and auction. They have some pretty cool stuff thus far so bring your purse and plan to take home that once-in-a-lifetime purchase that will, besides amazing your friends, help Bob with his bills.

A BICYCLE TREASURE HUNT IV–open to all Burners!

On Saturday, May 19th, the entire Island of Alameda (next to Oakland) will be turned into one giant playground for cycle sleuthing. You, or better yet, your top notch playa team will be velo hunting through the enchanting, mysterious and bike-friendly (hill-free!) Island of Alameda for some very cool prizes.

You will be enjoying an afternoon of riding a bicycle (recumbent, tandem, unicycle?) while having having fun solving some very creative clues. Please visit http://www.bayhunt.org (best way) or call 510 FEM-BOTS “*1” for the low down. Inquire about the JackRabbitSpeaks discount for your team.

Joe “PlayaFish” Carroll

PS If you are an artist/actor and wish to be involved behind the scenes in helping create one of the many unique clue sites, e- mail artists(at)bayhunt(dot)org

BURNING FLIPSIDE

What are you doing Memorial Day?

Coming to Texas?

http://www.burnaustin.org/flipside/flipside.html

How many days til Flipside? Wow! Only 15 days until the gates of our fair city open!

The Stranger stands tall…

If you haven’t bought your ticket yet, now is the time. Please visit http://www.burnaustin.org/flipside/tickets/tickets.html You only have 3 days to get your letter postmarked, if you plan to mail in a check (May 12 is that deadline!)

If you plan to buy via PayPal, you have 10 days (that deadline is May 19).

Advance tickets are $45, but tickets at the gate will be $60! Unfortunately, we will probably sell out at the gate, so if you aren’t planning to arrive early, an advance ticket is your best bet, even if you don’t mind shelling out an extra $15.

A note about Will Call:

Mail-in orders after 5/7, and PayPal orders after 5/12, will be held at Will Call. You’ll need to show a picture ID to pick up your tickets.

Alrighty! Look forward to seeing you in Pyropolis!

NEW YORK BURNERS: BLAST FURNACE!

Blast Furnace II ~ now with THEME!

“Playa Style”

Playa style is pretty wide open!
You have a lot of room to be creative.

What do some people think Playa Style is?
Here are some ideas you can jump off from:

When you’re planning your costume, tap into the dreams you have had:
Playa Style might be costumes made of saran wrap, found materials, old marching band uniforms, maybe tin foil. It might be animal, vegtable or mineral. Could be meat, could be fish. Could be “meatfish.”
When you think about how it might look:
Playa style might mean building a palace out of things that you found on the road, on the street, stuff that thrift stores were giving away.

Playa style is dreams of those Beaches and Deserts where your friends are, and we can all play.

Playa style is easy going in the heat, it is warm in the cold.

You are Playa Style!

Bring it on this June 2, 2001
211 Pearl Street
NEW YORK, NY, 10038-4916
between John Street and Maiden Lane

click here for an online map

There will be two prices:
A price for the Costumed,
and one for the Not Costumed*

*notes: “French” is not a costume in and of itself. Wearing a suit and saying that you are “boring” will not pass for a costume. Please create something fun.

Blast Furnace II will probably run 8pm till 4am
We will send you a reminder with the exact times and prices. Start planning you costume NOW!

Blast Furnace Two is a production to support S.E.A.L. S.E.A.L. stands for “Society for Experimental Arts and Learning” S.E.A.L. is a group of people who are sometimes like-minded, sometimes not, who have ONE burning desire. We’re forming a not-for-profit to provide space and resources for artists and we do other things.

S.E.A.L. is open to you if you want to help. Same with BLAST FURNACE. Your warm body is welcome in our puppy-pile anytime. Please contact one of the co-producers of the event if you want more info on how YOU can get involved.
