Burning Man Update: The Jack Rabbit Speaks
Volume 12, Issue #6
October 30, 2007

Hey everybody!

This is a special announcement from Larry Harvey about an upcoming fundraiser for the Black Rock Arts Foundation. Together with our Regionals Network and Burners Without Borders, the Black Rock Arts Foundation is a key part of the effort to propagate Burning Man culture and ethos around the world, year round. And since BRAF is a non-profit foundation, your financial assistance is critical to its success.

If you can’t make it to this wonderful event in San Francisco, please consider making a donation to BRAF by visiting www.donatetoblackrockarts.org/doanam.html.

Thank you … read on!

Dear Friends of Black Rock Arts,
The expansive spirit people rediscover in themselves at Burning Man – that is what the Black Rock Arts Foundation is striving to bring to the world. BRAF combines public art and communal effort to create cultural engagement and societal change. With your help, we’ve made great progress. We’ve been credited with changing the face of public art in San Francisco — now, we’re enabling other folks in various communities around the globe to do the same.

Please, if you’re close by, join us and come out to celebrate. We’re throwing an inaugural gala November 3rd, this coming Saturday. This is our most ambitious effort yet, and we will particularly value your participation and support. The indefatigable $teven Ra$pa has reached into our community and summoned forth a vivid array of entertainers and artworks; food and drink will abound. Please join with me; become the motive force that drives BRAF forward.

We’d love to see you.

Larry

The Black Rock Arts Foundation’s first annual fall gala is this Saturday, November 3rd.

This ARTumnal Gathering is a not-to-be-missed extravaganza in the full spirit of this amazing community! This will be a positively joyful party, a celebration of the senses in support of wonderful community-building public art projects around the country and the world. This year BRAF supported projects in (among other places) South Africa; Amsterdam; India, Indonesia, and Malawi; Northampton, Massachusetts; Homer, Alaska; and Howard, Colorado. Here are just some of them (those funded through our annual grant cycle): www.blackrockarts.org/grants/2007-grant-recipients.

This Saturday, we’ll have a caravan of performing artists! We’ll have elegant and outlandish live bands, performers, musicians, dancers, aerialists, contortionists, stiltwalkers, and living works of art, like YOU — including Afrofunk Explosion (featuring members of ALBINO), Dr. Abacus – feral-minded cartoon jazz, Fou Fou HA – mayhem-making and dance shinanegans, Dan Cantrell & His Balkan Orchestra, Kerri Kresinski & Sweet Can Productions – aerial and circus arts, Kitten on the Keys – on the grand pipe organ & accordian, Bad Unkl Sista – costumes & Butoh, Samantha – Serpentine Moves belly dance, DJ Adnan – world house beats, Dwora & Shredder of Vau de Vire Society – contortion and hoop, and more!!!
