{================================================} =================INTRODUCTION=================== {================================================} **/**/**/**/**/**/**/***/**

Greetings! OK, let us spell this out real clear like so it smacks you right in the kisser, like it should: Burning Man starts in 30 days.

This is about the point where you get really excited and/or panic, in anticipation of ALL THOSE THINGS you have to do to prepare yourself for the playa. OMG OMG OMG OMG.

Well, take a breath … we’re here to help. This edition of the Jack Rabbit Speaks is dedicated to the fine art of preparing for your Burning Man experience. We’re going to be highlighting some of the wealth of information available to you in the Preparation section of the Burning Man website … which is here:

http://www.burningman.com/preparation/

Over the course of many years, the Burning Man team has crafted this section to be one of the most invaluable sources of preparatory information for anything, anywhere, ever. OK, that’s hyperbole. But you get the point. It’s good stuff. Check it out.

Over the coming weeks, you’ll be seeing some single-subject JRS issues that will be chock full of helpful details – now’s the time to really tune in and pay attention, because crucial information’s a-flyin’ and you don’t want to miss a bit. Later today, another regular issue is coming your way (so if you’ve sent a post request, be cool – we’re getting to it).

We very much look forward to seeing you on the playa. Soon. Very soon.

-Will
(Associate Rabbit)

2009 BURNING MAN SURVIVAL GUIDE

The Survival Guide for Burning Man 2009 is now available online, and the printed version is making its way to your physical mailbox if you bought a ticket for this year’s event.

Whether you’re a first time Burner, or a vet, the Survival Guide is mandatory reading for every participant (guess that’s why we named it Survival Guide). And while we hate to use the word “mandatory,” darn if it doesn’t sound really urgent and all. And it is.

We change and update the content every year, and there’s important information that actually can make or break your Burning Man experience. So please, do read it, and make sure all your campmates do too. Here … it’s right here:

http://www.burningman.com/preparation/event_survival

You can read it online, or download a PDF (which is dern pretty, we gotta say).

NEW/HIGHLIGHTED stuff for 2009 includes:

  • What to expect at the Gate
  • Giving feedback on law enforcement
  • The city plan has changed!
  • No early arrivals
  • Exodus etiquette – what to expect
  • Lumber recycling on the playa – don’t burn good wood!
  • Trash, recycling & grey water updates
  • Storm emergency instructions
  • RV servicing and fees
  • Sound on Mutant Vehicles
  • Revised Shuttle ticket price
  • No public showers and pools

RECOMMENDED READING

Not only do we have the essential stuff found in the Survival Guide, we also have a plentitude of pages that contain a whole heaping helping of invaluable information about making your Burning Man experience *primo*. We call it the Recommended Reading section, and it’s here:

http://bit.ly/oxwh5

Whether you want to find out how to get married at Burning Man, learn about the best bike to bring to the playa, how to secure your shade structure, dispose of grey water (which, by law, you must do, by the way), or just make sure your relationship doesn’t go to sh*t, it’s all there. Seriously. That and more.

**/**/**/**/**/**/**/***/**

IS IT YOUR FIRST TIME?

Not for THAT, you pervs. Is it your first time coming to Burning Man? If so, you might benefit from learning all about the event in our First Timer’s Guide.

TRAVEL INFORMATION & ROAD/BRIDGE CLOSURES

You DO want to get there, right? Right. So yeah, we have the webpage for you. Whether you want rideshare information, driving directions from whichever point on the compass you’re starting, details about how to get from Reno Tahoe International Airport to the playa, or information about Reno or Gerlach, you can find it here:

http://www.burningman.com/preparation/travel_info

Oh, and one other thing … there are detours on I-80 in the Sierras due to road construction that could affect your driving time … especially with Mutant Vehicles in tow. More info:

http://www.getacross80.com/

Finally, CalTrans announced plans to close the San Francisco Bay Bridge late Thursday, September 3 through the morning of Tuesday, September 8 due to construction. That will make for a real hellacious show, folks. Plan accordingly. More info:

TICKETS

Haven’t got your tickets yet? Well, get on yer horse, people! Tickets are now available only at the $300 level, but a small number of $280 tickets are available (while supplies last) at our ticket outlets. For more info, and to buy yours now:

http://tickets.burningman.com

Tickets bought from here on out are going to be available through Will Call ONLY – July 31st (today!) is the cutoff to have them put in the mail. Trust us, you don’t want us sending your tickets in the mail now, and risk your not getting them in time for the Burn. That would suck.

Oh, and there will be ticket sales at the gate this year, but please, plan ahead.
