{================================================} =================INTRODUCTION=================== {================================================}

Howdy all! Welcome to Fall, or as we call it here in the Bay Area: Summer. Yeah, while you were roasting all through the summer months, we were freezing our patooties off over here … and now it’s our turn to bask in the sun. And the fog. But we digress.

So, the hard-working Playa Restoration crew has just completed their incredible efforts to return the Black Rock Desert to its pristine pre- event condition, removing all the last traces of the city. And? They report that this was the cleanest Black Rock City ever, so thank you for doing your best to Leave No Trace. And hats off to this amazing, unsung crew, without whom? We’d be screwed.

Meanwhile, back in the real world … Burners everywhere are in full blown Decompression event mode, and now that the LA Decom’s in the bag (we hear it was a hoot), it’s time to turn our attention to SF, NYC, Santa Cruz, Denver, Portland … and more. As always, a full listing of goings on in your neighborhood can be found here:

http://regionals.burningman.com/regionalevents_09.html

Hope this finds you well … see you next time!

BURNING MAN WALL CALENDAR — MARK YOUR TIME ‘TIL WE MEET AGAIN

Happy New Burn Year!

Last year’s Burning Man Calendar ended when the Man burned, but there is no need to panic! The 2009-2010 edition is available in our marketplace at:

http://bit.ly/XeoKo

In addition to the usual feast of colorful playa photos, the latest calendar also features images from the far reaches and various expressions of our worldwide community. Throughout the year, you can experience regional and community events in places like Spain and South Africa (for starters) and see how the Black Rock Arts Foundation, Black Rock Solar and Burners Without Borders are carrying the Burning Man spirit beyond Black Rock City. We are everywhere!

**/**/**/**/**/**/**/***/**

BURNING MAN REFERENCED IN MILAN FASHION WEEK

File this under mildly weird, but Danger Ranger tipped us off to Burning Man having influenced a fashion designer who was showing her work at Milan Fashion Week (that’s fancy, folks) recently.

GET A SIGNED COPY OF “BURNING MAN LIVE,” THE PISS CLEAR BOOK, PLUS AN ORIGINAL ISSUE ON NEWSPRINT!

Adrian Roberts, the inimitable editor of Piss Clear, writes to tell us of a new offering for his book. Check it:

“‘Burning Man Live,’ the recently-published anthology of ‘Piss Clear,’ Black Rock City’s favorite alternative newspaper, is now available directly from its editor, Adrian Roberts.

Get the book direct from the Piss Clear web site at:

http://www.pissclear.org

and Adrian will not only personally sign it for you, but will also include an original issue of ‘Piss Clear’ on newsprint. It’s a piece of Burning Man history!

‘Burning Man Live’ is a 320-page anthology compiling all 34 issues of ‘Piss Clear,’ the funny, snarky, and colorful newspaper published in Black Rock City from 1995-2007. As the ‘Vice magazine of the playa,’ it’s chock full of interesting articles, acerbic rants, witty commentaries, and funny lists. Along the way, it ended up documenting – as it was happening – the growing evolution of the Burning Man event.”

SEEKING PHOTOS OR VIDEO OF “CROW MOTHER”

Dan Glass writes:

“My name is Dan Glass and I am looking for any photos/video of the burning of ‘Crow Mother,’ an installation that was located at 11:45 and the trash fence (not listed in guide). It was a 16-ft high Hopi Indian kachina, a totemic structure that burned Sunday night after the Temple. It was a memorial, and I’d love to show the images to a family member. Imagery of any stage of construction would be excellent, although I am especially interested in video of the burn – I was told that someone had taken a lot of it but I have no leads. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at danglass66@gmail, and at 646.320.0946. Much thanks.”

SEEKING PHOTOS OR VIDEO OF “PORTAL OF EVOLUTION” SCULPTURE

Bryan writes in, looking for shots of his (amaaaazing) “Portal of Evolution” piece … you know, this one:

http://bit.ly/380QrH

“Bryan Tedrick, creator of ‘Portal of Evolution,’ is seeking high definition video and/or still (high resolution) photos of his work from the Playa this year. We (Bryan and his wife) are using the video/ photos to help promote his work via video (youtube and other artist- friendly sites), portfolio, and photo books. Attribution for the work will, of course, be provided. If you would like to share your work, please contact us at the following email address: tedrickart (at) sbcglobal (dot) net .”

THE CULTURE LABS INVITES YOU TO PARTICIPATE AT SF’S DECOMPRESSION

This year at Burning Man, the various outreach groups of Burning Man (Burners Without Borders, The Black Rock Arts Foundation, Black Rock Solar and The Regional Network) teamed up to create a unified presence on the playa-The Culture Labs.

This year at San Francisco’s Decompression, The Culture Labs will once again host an interactive gathering space where together, we’ll create and propagate our culture to be carried into the default world the other 51 weeks of the year.

How are you nurturing the seeds in your own community that we all collectively plant in Black Rock City every year? You are invited to stop by, sit a spell and share your story of personal evolution with other folks looking for inspiration and ideas about how we can all bring the Burner ethos to our communities year-round.
