{============================================================} =======================INTRODUCTION========================= {============================================================}

**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/** We’re still basking in the glow of Burning Man 2012, and we suspect you are too. Of course “basking in the glow” is code for “neck-deep in the playa dust that’s still all over our stuff”.

There’s been a steady stream of articles and photo galleries coming across our radar these last couple weeks, each carrying a reminder of what we do and why we do it. Long story short: you people are amazing. And we’re especially glad to see so many incredible photographers, videographers, thinkers and writers giving their gift of documenting this hard-to-describe experience.

We’ve got another round-up of the latest and greatest in this here JRS (and please feel free to point us towards ones we haven’t posted yet), along with some opportunities to participate and a heads up about upcoming events. We’re also asking first-time Burners to share their experience with us in the Burning Blog. Was this your first time? We want to hear about it! Aaaand go:

http://bit.ly/SlyTIp

Lastly, if you’re jonesin’ for Burning Man … we feel ya … we recommend you connect with your local Regional Contact (http://regionals.burningman.com), hop on the ePlaya (http://eplaya.burningman.com), peruse the Burning Blog (http://blog.burningman.com/), and/or keep tabs on the Burning Man Facebook page (www.facebook.com/burningman) to keep the fires burning. Go forth, make some connections, and get involved!

We miss you too. The Man burns in 351 days!

**NEW!!** HOW TO SUBMIT A POST REQUEST TO THE JACKRABBIT

As Burning Man’s population grows, so do the number of post requests the Jackrabbit receives. In order to keep it all manageable, we’re changing how we accept and process post requests. Rather than taking them via email, we’ve created a simple online form to fill out … this is the ONLY way we will accept post requests from now on.

Here’s the form:

http://bit.ly/jrspostrequest

FEEDBACK, LOST AND FOUND, LAW ENFORCEMENT, TICKET ISSUES

Remember to email feedback (at) burningman (dot) com with your feedback about this year’s event so we can factor it in to our planning for 2013. Deadline is November 1.

Looking for lost and found? Here ya go: http://www.burningman.com/blackrockcity_yearround/lostandfound

Tell us about your encounters (good or bad) with law enforcement on playa (this is important!): http://www.burningman.com/on_the_playa/le_feedback.html

Ticket issues? Read our Frequently Asked Questions to figure out how to proceed: http://tickets2.burningman.com/faq.php … and if you need to contact us about it, go here: http://tickets.burningman.com/contact

WHAT WAS THE SANSKRIT MESSAGE ON THE ARTIST WRISTBANDS?

Some folks asked, and we thought you’d enjoy the answer. Kristy, our Gate crew manager, tells us how they chose the Sanskrit quote printed on the wristbands for artists arriving early:

“In the spirit of Fertility 2.0, we chose this text and language because they embody themes of creation and and basic elements of human life. The text is Article 1 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/index.shtml). We chose a Sanskrit translation as it is one of the oldest human languages and is a foundation for many modern languages. And hopefully this mystery encouraged a little extra Communal Effort and Participation among those who wanted to figure out the meaning. Thanks to all of you who were curious!

Kristy”

SPECIAL DEAL ON “THE PEOPLE OF BURNING MAN” BOOK

If you cruised through the Center Camp Cafe or Media Mecca this year, you might have come across copies of “The People of Burning Man”, an amazing compilation of photographs of Burners on playa. Well, its creator (Julian Cash aka SuperSnail) is offering them at a 20% discount for Jackrabbit Speaks subscribers. The Coupon Code is JRS20 and is valid when ordered directly from their site:

http://ThePeopleOfBurningMan.com

Julian says: “The looks on the faces of our people do a lot to explain why we return to the Dust.” Visit their site and get a book to show the folks at home.

Here’s Cory Doctorow’s Boing Boing review of their project:
http://bit.ly/PHrQwT

And they’ve been busy this last year, appearing on America’s Got Talent as the Aurora Light Painters, drawing amazing glowing images in the air, earning them a spot in the top 48. Congrats, guys!

AMAZING AERIAL VIDEO OF BLACK ROCK CITY 2012

This is completely rad, and we’re psyched to see the advancement of aerial high definition photography and video to capture new perspectives on the Burning Man experience. Check this out:

http://bit.ly/SltDEH

And he writes about the technique:

“FPV is ‘first person view’ flying of a radio controlled aircraft using a video image from the plane transmitted wirelessly to a viewing station on the ground, using video goggles in my case. This allows safe operation of a small, quiet, electric airplane while taking high-definition video while piloting the plane as if one were sitting in the cockpit. I flew at about 50kph (30mph) at an altitude of of 30m (100ft) over the playa and the city to obtain video for this production, then landed safely right on the inner playa.”

VIDEO FROM VINCENT ROMMELAERE

Vincent made a truly beautiful 5-minute video of this year’s Burn … wonderful stuff. Take a look:

SWEET VIDEO OF CAMP LIFE – GRANDMA’S HAUS

These folks sent in this sweet little video capturing the Burning Man camp life … it’s a nice antidote to the big splashy crazy-ass videos of pomp and circumstance, reminding us of the quieter, in-between times that are an integral part of the Burning Man experience. We thought you’d dig it. Thanks, HotRod!

TEMPLE GUARDIANS HISTORY PROJECT

Jake writes:

“The Temple Guardians have been watching over the Temples of Burning Man since 2002, but until now we have never had an archive of our history as a group. It is our intention to capture history of the Temple Guardians in a way that allows us to share our story with everyone. To this end, we are looking for playa artifacts from the last ten years of the Temple. We specifically would like to have photos of Guardians at the Temple, group photos, art from our bandanas, examples of our traditional bells, and stories from or about Guardians at the Temple. Your contributions will be featured on the Temple Guardians website along with credit and thanks for your contribution.

Have something to contribute? Want to help? Send us email at: templeguardians (at) burningman (dot) com
