{============================================================} =======================INTRODUCTION========================= {============================================================}

**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/** Hello everybody! Well, tomorrow is a big day. 40,000 tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis in our Individual Sale, starting at 12pm (that’s noon) PST on Wednesday February 13th. We have a primer below to get you ready for the sale.

In other news, there’s some hiring going on at BMHQ, and we’ve got two (count ’em, 2!) open positions to run by you. And if you live in Reno (or want to), Black Rock Solar has one as well.

Finally, as you’ll see, our Support a Project list is starting to grow … as predicted. A note to would-be seekers of promotion for your fundraiser in the Jackrabbit Speaks: we will only promote projects that have a VERY LARGE IMPACT on a LARGE NUMBER of Burners on playa. We have to draw the line somewhere, and that’s where we believe it makes sense to draw it (though we also reserve the right to highlight certain projects we think you should see). Promotion of your fundraiser is really up to YOU, and is an opportunity to reach out to and connect with people in your community to garner favor, friends and support.

That said, regardless of the scale of your project, if you want your Kickstarter and Indiegogo fundraisers listed on our Support a Project webpage, here’s how:

http://www.burningman.com/participate/supportaproject/raisefunds.html

The Man burns in 200 days! That’s a round number! Auspicious!

TICKETS: GET READY FOR THE BURNING MAN 2013 INDIVIDUAL SALE

40,000 tickets for Burning Man 2013 will go on sale beginning at 12pm (noon) PST tomorrow – that’s Wednesday, February 13. Here’s what you need to know to be ready.

First off, this sale is ONLY accessible to those who pre-registered during the pre-registration period (February 6-10).

On Wednesday, February 13 at 12pm (noon) PST, a link to the sale will appear at the top of this page: http://tickets.burningman.com. You can also use the button in your confirmation email. Either works.

In order to access the sale, you will need to provide your unique pass code from your confirmation email. If you didn’t receive a confirmation email or don’t have your pass code, email ticketsupport (at) burningman (dot) com as soon as possible for assistance – please don’t wait until the sale is underway to reach out for help!

Before the sale opens, make sure your web browser (Safari, Firefox, or Chrome, ideally) has cookies enabled and Javascript turned on. (This is usually in your browser’s preferences.) You *can* use your smart phone or tablet, but know that this process isn’t optimized for mobile devices, and you will need a reliable connection.

PLEASE NOTE: we anticipate a lot of people will be trying to access the sale at the same time and we cannot accurately predict how long of a wait there will be. While we have worked closely with our ticketing partner to make the system run as quickly and smoothly as possible, many participants will be attempting to purchase tickets at the same time, which may result in long wait times. Please be prepared to be patient.

If you have questions, please email ticketsupport (at) burningman (dot) com. Keep in mind that the folks on the other end of that email address are Burners just like you … and they’re here to help.

For current information about the ticket sale please follow our Twitter feeds (@bmantickets and @burningman), check out this ePlaya discussion thread (http://eplaya.burningman.com/viewforum.php?f=326), and/or our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/burningman).

We’ll see you (virtually) on Wednesday!

RENT YOUR PLAYA BIKE FROM BLACK ROCK BICYCLES

Located just a few hours from the playa, Black Rock Bicycles of Reno is geared up earlier this year with rentals and affordable new and used cruisers. This Burners-owned and operated outfit comes highly recommended and they always sell out, so it’s best to reserve a reliable and comfortable bike early. They also have bike supplies, such as lighting, baskets, bells, locks, and many other bike necessities. ALSO to help make the journey to the playa easier and stress free, their customers can ship their supplies to them 30 days prior to Burning Man, have it stored without charge, and pick the supplies up along with their bike on their way to the playa. Finally, they will also ship your supplies back to you after the burn for only the cost of the shipping (items must be boxed and ready to ship). Check out their website for contact information, reservations, and questions at www.blackrockbicycles.com

“TRIBES OF BURNING MAN” TO BE TRANSLATED INTO FRENCH

We are everywhere, including French-speaking countries and Francophiles’ bookshelves, apparently. Steve Jones writes to let us know:

“The Tribes of Burning Man: How an Experimental City in the Desert is Shaping the New American Counterculture, the 2011 book by Steven T. Jones (aka Scribe) chronicling the explosion of the Burner culture, will be translated into French.

Its publisher, CCC Publishing of San Francisco, signed a translation and distribution deal last week with Montreal-based publisher Éditions Octave that will make the French-version of the book available online and in bookstores throughout Canada, France, and Switzerland starting this summer.

Tribes includes embedded journalism with the Flaming Lotus Girls, Temple of Flux, Burners Without Borders, Opulent Temple, and other high-profile Burning Man tribes and extensive interviews with event founder Larry Harvey and other Burner luminaries from 2004 until the present, as the event reached the pinnacle of its popularity and cultural influence.”

CONNECTIVITY VS. IMMEDIACY

Halcyon is back, and sparking an interesting discussion on the tension between staying connected and staying CONNECTED on playa. What do you think? Is our hyper-connected technological culture threatening the immediacy we experience at Burning Man (and oh, how rare that is these days)? Add your thoughts on the Burning Blog:

THE MOOP SONG FEATURING BUDDY CARROT

We don’t even … know … what to say about this, except that this dude is AWESOME. Hear what may just be the best (!!) song ever written about Matter Out of Place (MOOP). And the bonus? It’s a sing-along! Created by 2012 virgin Burner Shwaman Josh of The More Carrots (a Black Rock farmer’.s market in the French Quarter Village).

THE SS TITTYHAWK: AN *AIRCRAFT CARRIER* ART CAR FOR BURNING MAN

Holy. Crap. It is our duty as a community of like-minded individuals seeking to manifest and thoroughly enjoy the monstrously absurd to help make this happen. Right? Right. Tizzle writes:

“I had a vision one night on the Playa last year after an encounter with several random groups. I had an 8 person art car and a lot of people I taxied around said they could not get on the other big art cars. Well this kinda stinks because I had the same thing happen my first year on the Playa too. This vision involves a bus, tons of lumber, metal, welding, paint, and all to make a LARGE CARGO area called a flight deck. We are building an Aircraft Carrier Art Car for Burning Man 2013 and we need your help!

HELP THE IMAGINATION MACHINE RETURN TO THE PLAYA

James of The F*cking Unicorns crew writes:

“Two years ago we embarked on a journey to create something big for for the Burning Man community. We built the Imagination Machine; a huge double rainbow, with 7,000 programmable LEDs, a mobile aerial rig, glowing clouds and a spacious raised dance platform with one of the best views on the playa.

Now we want to ensure the Imagination Machine is something you see on the playa year after year. The current vehicle is in need of some basic repairs. A new transmission and some work on the suspension will get us back to Apogaea (the Colorado Regional) and Burning Man in 2013. A new base vehicle will bring the magic back in following years, and give us room to expand and grow.

We’ve got big ideas, and we’ve proven we can pull them off. But big things cost money. The Unicorns never raise funds to buy personal or camp infrastructure. Every dollar goes back to the community, and this kickstarter is no different.

Long term, We’ve got big ideas, and the newer, bigger vehicle is where it all starts.

PLANTS ON THE PLAYA! COOL, RIGHT? WRONG.

Take a good look around the Black Rock Desert the next time you’re there. Do you see any flora? Uhhhh no. This might be your first clue that the desert is no place for plants. The high desert will suck the life out of your plants and dry them out before you can say “flores es pulchellus”.

Then guess what happens? They fall apart and blow away in the next gust of wind that hits your camp. Instant MOOP. Or the pot tips over, and boom, you’ve got a pile of dirt to scoop up. So not worth it.

The solution? Fake plants, of course. Their kitch is the perfect touch for the playa, and your plants huddled safely back at home will thank you. And this, friends, is why live plants are not allowed through the Gate to Black Rock City. The end.
