Burning Man Update: The Jack Rabbit Speaks
Volume 13, Issue #6: SPECIAL TICKET PRE-SALE EDITION
November 6, 2008
Hello everybody, please allow us to take a moment here to welcome you to the intersection of the American Dream … and Evolution. We encourage you to take a moment today to reflect upon Black Rock City and our ever-expanding community, and the incredible potential of creation made manifest through direct participation, coupled with the undaunted willingness to hope beyond what some may call reason.
OK, thanks for letting us get all mushy and wax poetic there for a second … we couldn’t really help it, ya know?
Right. So then, with that … onward to exciting news: by popular demand, we’re resurrecting the Burning Man Ticket Pre-Sale! Yep, we’re putting 1,000 Burning Man tickets on sale before the holidays this year so you can get your holiday on and gift tickets to your loved ones (or heck, your enemies … fine with us). So yeah, exactly 1,000 shiny new tickets go on sale Friday, November 14 at 10am PST. Read on for details.
And then read yet further for more interesting and entertaining bits of things and stuff. Returning now to bask in the glow,
-PQ
(Associate Rabbit)

YOU ASKED FOR IT, YOU GOT IT: TICKET PRE-SALE
By popular demand, we are pleased to announce the resurrection of the Burning Man Ticket Pre-sale, in advance of the holidays, for Burning Man 2009!
For years we’ve heard feedback from enthusiastic early-planner types who’d like to be able to gift Burning Man tickets to friends and loved ones at the holidays instead of waiting until January. As always, this year’s ticket will illustrate our art theme — Evolution — and we deem it particularly beautiful; a perfect gift. Other participants aren’t so concerned about holding out for the lower-priced tickets available on launch day, and would rather get a ticket now, and thus avoid the rush.
In answer, we give you the Holiday Ticket Pre-sale. Here’s how it will work: we’ll offer 1,000 tickets at $260 each (this will be the third tier ticket price for ’09; more details on the full ticket launch will be posted on our web site on December 12). These tickets will be a special allotment and the quantity will NOT come out of any of the pricing tiers for our regular ticket launch on January 14. (And no, it won’t affect your chances to try for any of the first or second tier tickets when they’re available.)
Pre-sale tickets will be available online beginning Friday, 11/14 at 10:00am PST.
Tickets will stay on sale until 11:59pm PST December 28 OR the allotment of 1000 presale tickets run out, whichever comes first.
For all the nitty gritty details, please visit http://tickets.burningman.com

THE BURNING MAN SCREEN SAVER PROJECT WANTS YOUR PHOTOS
Tiki Bob, we’re happy to report, is at it again. He writes:
“Well it’s that time again. Everyone’s home, decompressions are in full swing and everyone is looking at all the great photos they took this year. And the BM Screen Saver project is ramping up again getting ready to do the 7th annual unofficial BM Screen Saver for the American Dream. Every year we collect photos from as many photographers as possible and put together a great screen saver for both Macs and PCs with all the taste and feel of the playa from the past year. For 2007 we had over 73 photographers and 1400 pictures on the final screen savers.
We want your photos! If you took photos and would like to share them with the greater Burner community please go to our web site at:
http://www.bmscreensavers.com/id12.html
for all the details on how to get the photos to us. The deadline for getting us the photos is December 31st, 2008. All our past screen savers are also available for download, so go crazy.
The Burning Man Screen Saver project is a group of volunteers and all screen savers are gifted back to the community by the photographers and the volunteers for the enjoyment of all.
Please remember while taking any pictures at a Burner event to ask before taking any pictures of people, and don’t take pictures of people without permission.

MAKE A DONATION TO SUPPORT AN INJURED MEMBER OF THE TEMPLE CREW
While we don’t normally post straight up requests for money, this is an (exceptionally rare) exception we’re willing to make, as it involves somebody who clearly sacrificed so much for our community this year, and the result of his work impacted so many so deeply. If you’re inclined to donate, good on ya. The Ashram Galactica folks write:
“Dear Burning Man Family,
As a member of ‘The Grand Hotel – Ashram Galactica’ – I have had the honor of helping to provide the playa with ‘Five-Star’ hotel, restaurant, bar and spa services for the past four years.
And as a member of the Burning Man community at large, I have the privilege to reach out to all of you today with a simple request to help aide one of the key members of our community.
This past burn, Douglas Sinclair took a sabbatical from Ashram to volunteer, for some 25 days, building the Temple.
It’s not even worth attempting to describe the result of the Temple Crew’s efforts. If you were there, then you experienced it; if you weren’t, a description won’t help.
During construction, a freak accident occurred, resulting in a spiral break to Doug’s hand. After two Trips to Reno, (where every hand specialist was on vacation) doctors recommended that Doug leave Burning Man in order to get his hand set. Doug said ‘Ok, ok…’, then wrapped up his hand and continued building the temple – one handed.
And yes … I am serious.
Unfortunately, there was no medical coverage offered to the Temple Crew. As a craftsman who makes his living with his hands, Doug has been out of work since, and is facing some rather large medical expenses.
One of our camp leaders generously stepped up to lend Doug the money to ensure that he has gotten the medical treatment he deserves. However, we are attempting now to raise money to cover Doug’s loss of work expenses, and to help him pay back some or all of the money he had to borrow to seek treatment.
Though most of you will not have had the privilege to meet Dougie in person, you all experienced the love and sacrifice he and so many others put into building the Temple for us all to enjoy.
So we ask you now to give back, even the smallest amount, to help this member of our extended Burning Man community get back on his feet.
Via the Ashram organization, we have set up this donation link:
http://www.ashramgalactica.com/dougie.html
A small amount, from a large number of people can go a long way. While we have organized a fundraiser in Los Angles, we still need additional funds to cover some of his expenses.
Please, if you can, help.
Sincerely,
The Ashram Galactica Family.”

BURNING MAN ARTIST SEEKS BOTTLE CAPS
Got bottle caps? Crazier things have happened. Kitty wants ’em. She writes:
“For the last few years I have been making sculptures with recycled materials, primarily metal bottle caps. I have displayed my bottle cap art at Burning Man twice, Bottle Cap Tree in the Mangrove (2007) and Spin ‘Em! in Center Camp Cafe (2008). I am currently in the process of designing my next bottle cap sculpture for 2009, my most ambitious idea yet as it will require tens of thousands of metal bottle caps.
If I am to pull this off successfully then I am going to need help accumulating my raw material. I specifically would like bottle caps from bars. Do you work at a bar that would be willing to save bottle caps for me? Are you a regular at a bar that you think would be interested in helping me with my cause? If you would like to help me out, please contact me at kittyg (at) gmail (dot) com. I live in the Bay Area so local sources are preferred but I would accept bottle caps from anywhere (I would pay for shipping them to me, etc.).
Thanks for your help!
Kitty Gordon”
