**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/** Hello everybody! The core Burning Man office staff has returned from an extraordinarily productive offsite retreat, where we spent good time plowing through all the possibilities for future endeavors and initiatives, contemplating the future of Burning Man and the Burning culture. We all walked out of there energized and optimistic, each of us clasping a rather large to-do list. Thanks again for all the feedback you provided (via feedback (at) burningman (dot) com) that got folded into the mix of our thinking and discussions!

OK, so onward … by popular demand, we’re once again kicking up our Burning Man Ticket Pre-Sale program, so you good folks can pick up a Burning Man ticket or two to gift your loved ones for the holidays. We’ve got 1,000 of them to sell at $280 each, starting tomorrow (Wednesday). All the details follow, and you can learn more on our ticket page:

http://tickets.burningman.com

Finally, if you’re in the Bay Area, we’d love to see you at the Black Rock Arts Foundation Artumnal Gathering this Saturday. It’s going to be an incredible event, as it has for the past three years. In a gorgeous venue (The Bently Reserve), we’re packing in a wealth of performers, exhibiting artists, a live auction, silent auction, a wonderful catered dinner, and an ebullient after-party with all your good friends. This is one of BRAF’s biggest fundraising efforts, and your support is very much appreciated! Get your tickets now before they sell out (and they will). Details below.

We hope you’re meeting the upcoming holiday season head on, and that it finds you and yours happy and healthy.

THE BURNING MAN 2011 TICKET PRE-SALE IS ON!

By popular demand, we are pleased — once again — to announce the resurrection of the Burning Man Ticket Pre-sale ho-down, in advance of the holidays, for Burning Man 2011!

For years we’ve heard feedback from enthusiastic early-planner types who’d like to be able to gift Burning Man tickets to friends and loved ones at the holidays instead of waiting until January. As always, this year’s ticket will illustrate our art theme – Rites of Passage – and we deem it particularly beautiful; a perfect gift. Other participants aren’t so concerned about holding out for the lower-priced tickets available on launch day, and would rather get a ticket now, and avoid the rush.

In answer, we give you the Holiday Ticket Pre-sale. Here’s how it will work: we’ll offer 1,000 tickets at $280 each (this will be the third tier ticket price for 2011; more details on the full ticket launch will be posted on our web site on December 12). These tickets will be a special allotment and the quantity will NOT come out of any of the pricing tiers for our regular ticket launch on January 19. (And no, it won’t affect your chances to try for any of the first or second tier tickets when they’re available.)

This pre-sale will run from Wednesday, November 17 at 10am (PST) through December 30 at 11:59pm (PST) or when the allotment of 1,000 tickets is gone, whichever comes first.

For all the nitty gritty details, please visit http://tickets.burningman.com

MICHAEL CHRISTIAN’S “FLOCK” ON EXHIBIT IN TEXAS

Michael Christian created his “Flock” sculpture for Burning Man 2001. In 2005, the Black Rock Arts Foundation installed it on San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza as one of its first Civic Arts programs.

Texas residents can now see “Flock” on display over the next year at the site of the popular Arts Outside festival in Texas. We’re pleased that Michael’s work is reaching more communities!

Flock, on display through fall of 2011
Apache Pass

A NICE PLAYA STORY FROM THE MYSTICAL MISFITS

An Observer of GREAT Burning Man happenings writes to tell us this nice story:

“Mystical Misfits camp located at 4:30 and B always tries to build a bigger and better camp than the year before.

This year they built a three or four story structure with an elevator, just to see if they could pull it off.

Much to their surprise and delight they discovered that the word got out to all those who couldn’t (and have never been able to) walk up ramps or climb stairs to see the great expanse of the Playa and all the beautiful views the Playa has to offer.

Mystical Misfits, who did not expect this, were extremely touched by the gratitude of the people in wheelchairs and walkers who were so thankful for the opportunity for the views they never could have have seen if it weren’t for the elevator.

This is one GREAT STORY to be shared with everyone … THANKS TO MYSTICAL MISFITS for giving the gift of views to everyone Signed,

Observer of GREAT Burning Man happenings.”

HUGE BURNING MAN CONTINGENT IN THE NEW YORK CITY HALLOWEEN PARADE (VIDEO)

A friend writes:

“Hello Mr. Rabbit

Whilst it may have gotten around that we in New York City will have no “official” decom this year, Black Rock City had a HUGE contingent in this year’s NYC Halloween Parade. The 5-mph onslaught took up nearly two city blocks as the parade moved up 6th Avenue. Playa-direct art cars “Fish Tank” and “Shagillac” rode just ahead of the Kostume Kult float and all onlookers were left naked and amazed.

This video (created from 1500 sequential stills) best lays out the scene:

HUMANUMENT PROJECT SHARES THEIR COLLECTED PHOTOGRAPHS FROM BM2011

Briana writes:

“Hello Jackrabbit!

This year we had a piece on the playa called the Humanument which invited participants to become monuments for the city. People could write out their epitaph on a magnetic “bronze” plaque, climb aboard our “marble” plinth and depress a button to have their photograph taken. The collected photographs are now up online, there are over 1000 of them!

APROPOS TO THE METROPOL THEME: RADIOLAB SHOW ON CITIES

Betsy writes to share some excellent audio intellectualization about Cities, from the NPR show RadioLab.

“Considering our last-year’s theme, Metropolis, I thought it was appropriate to turn everyone’s attention to the excellent NPR show ‘Radiolab’, which recently spent an hour contemplating Cities.

Check that episode out at: http://www.radiolab.org/2010/oct/08/

I believe you have to download the podcast to listen to the episode, but it is 100% worth it….I would actually recommend downloading all previous episodes as well and listening to them non-stop as you bike to and from work every day.”

Thanks for the tip, Betsy!

THE CRUCIBLE SEEKS AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Our good friends at the Crucible, in Oakland, California are currently seeking a new Executive Director to head up their operations. The Crucible is a non-profit educational facility that teaches the industrial and fine arts to people of the Bay Area while fostering a collaboration of Arts, Industry and Community. Many many Burning Man artists have learned and/or honed their skills here that have enabled them to make many of the creations you’ve enjoyed on playa.

Apply if you’re qualified:

LONDON DECOMPRESSION – LONDON, ENGLAND – DECEMBER 3

After a long and difficult search for a venue, we’ve finally found somewhere at the last minute! So London Decompression can actually go ahead and the months of work have been worth it once more!

Tickets for Decom 2010 cost £18.50; for more information or to make the most exciting purchase of the month, grab your pet mouse and click here: http://www.londondecom.com/pages/tickets

Remember that ticket numbers are limited, and in every year so far, we’ve sold out well before the event. So don’t delay, get your tickets now!

Rumours abound of theme camps galore, and the art team have been busy working with artists in the community to bring the playa magic to London again.

There’s an art installation being created at this very moment for Decom 2010 that you can start interacting with right now! It delivers an LED matrix that does more than blink in a robotic, pre-determined fashion. You can create animations for it on the artist’s website, in the run up to the event, and then see your designs on the night.

To learn more about this fascinating project and to create your animations, visit http://cwd.co.uk/illuminatrix/

For all the details on London Decompression head over to http://www.londondecompression.com

See you there!
