{============================================================} =======================INTRODUCTION========================= {============================================================}

**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**

Happy impending 4th of July weekend, folks! (Holy moly it’s July.) The Man Kcrew is up on the Burning Man Ranch as we write, building the Man that will become the centerpiece of our fair city in the desert. The Man’s juuust about done, after which he will be placed in a container to cure until the event. IT’S ALL HAPPENING, PEOPLE!

Things are starting to really shape up here … the deadlines have passed to pre-register your theme camp, art installation, and to apply for a Mutant Vehicle license … artists are cranking away in their warehouses, shops, backyards and living rooms, manifesting their creations that they’ll bring out to the playa for all to enjoy.

We’ve got some especially cool information about the CORE project that will be a huge part of the Burning Man experience this year … definitely check that out.

And some important ticket information!! Tickets at the official Burning Man Walk-In Ticket Outlets are NOW SOLD OUT. All remaining tickets are going to be sold ONLINE ONLY, since we’re not selling tickets at the gate this year, remember? Yeah you do. So if you’re planning on buying tickets, get ’em now.

Lastly, you really should take a minute to peruse all the great posts going up in the Burning Blog … from playa tips to Caveat’s rantish musings to the latest BRAF projects … it’s all excellent stuff. http://blog.burningman.com

The Man burns in (wait for it …..) 64 days! Yow!

WALK-IN TICKET OUTLETS NO LONGER SELLING TICKETS — ALL REMAINING SALES ONLINE!

Some of you may have noticed on tickets.burningman.com in the section about our walk-in ticket outlets we mentioned that outlets would be selling our tickets “through Sunday, July 31, or until supplies run out, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.”

Well, we’re here to tell you that July 31 is not coming first. As of July 1, the walk-in outlets will no longer be selling tickets to Burning Man 2011. Don’t fret, tickets are still available for purchase at http://tickets.burningman.com, but we do encourage you not to dawdle as they are in high demand.

REALLY REALLY COOL: THE CIRCLE OF REGIONAL EFFIGIES (CORE) PROJECT

The Circle of Regional Effigies (CORE) consists of 23 effigies created by Burning Man Regional groups around the world. They will be placed in a ring 600 feet around the base of the Man. These effigies are a celebration of the Burning Man Regionals and their efforts to support the Burning Man ethos as a global cultural movement. Please read about the pieces, so you can understand them better, and enjoy them that much more on playa.

All of the CORE projects will burn simultaneously at 9:00pm on Thursday of the event.

The circle will also include Charlie Smith’s “Fire Birds of the Fifth Direction”, four steel sculptures marking the four corners of the compass around the great circle of the Man. These fire cauldrons will be alight each night of the event, offering warm spaces for the community to gather. For more information, and to learn how you can contribute to the Fire Birds, visit www.howhowhow.com.

ART INSTALLATION AND MUTANT VEHICLE REGISTRATION CLOSED

The deadline to apply for a Mutant Vehicle license is now passed (it was June 30 at 12 noon PST).

Same goes for pre-registering your art installation. But don’t worry, you can still register your art installation when you arrive on playa … no sweat.

DESERT ART PREVIEW – THE WEBCAST

Did you miss the Desert Art Preview in SF? Unless you’re one of the couple hundred folks who made it out, then YES YOU DID.

By all accounts, it was really informative and super inspiring. (Even our most jaded attendees said so!) Lucky for you, we’ve got a recording of it right here for ya. Enjoy:

HONORARIUM ART PROJECT “PAST LIFE PHOTO BOOTH” NEEDS YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS

Laurel writes:

“Sure, maybe you were King Tut in a previous incarnation, but the rest of us were probably anonymous door to door encyclopedia salesmen, fish mongers, milk maids and other average folks. The Past Life Photo Booth needs you, yes YOU, to submit ideas for names and/or occupations (and the resulting life lessons) of those who have proceeded us here at Earth School. Submitted ideas will be transformed into past life trading cards and delivered to the appropriate individuals on the Playa via the magical photo booth! Adding your contribution is so easy, just visit www.pastlifephotobooth.com and click the ‘Participate’ box!

See you on the playa!
Laurel”

HELP BRING A BURNING MAN PROJECT TO LIFE

We’ve been adding more and more projects to our Support a Project page that are seeking assistance with their fundraising, in hopes of bringing their projects to Burning Man this year … there are nearly 40 at this point. Check them all out, help if you can:

TEMPLE OF TRANSITION NEEDS YOUR HELP

The Temple crew is raising funds necessary to complete the project, and they’re 1/3 of the way to their goal, with 8 days left in their fundraising push. Please help them out if you can. Teresa writes:

“It’s time to step up the already frenzied Temple of Transition build by several notches. With nearly 60 percent of the actual structure already piling up at the build site, and with more volunteers arriving every day, the International Arts Megacrew has used up nearly all of the available resources and needs YOUR help to keep our passionate, beautiful volunteers working over the coming weeks. The Temple Crew wants to provide you with a meaningful, on-playa Temple experience. To help make that happen, please donate through the tax deductable Indiegogo campaign which closes July 8 by following the link on http://temple2011.org. Plus you get some great Temple of Transition gifts of gratitude for your donation.”

BURNING MAN ART INSTALLATION LIGHTS UP DOWNTOWN RENO – JULY

“Spire of Fire” Continues Events At Riverwalk In July

RENO, NV – Fire and music create a gathering for hundreds of participants each Tuesday and Wednesday night in July as part of Artown. Over 1,000 people gathered at the corner of Sierra Street and Island Ave for the opening of the temporary interactive art installation and performance venue. Hundreds of adults and children have enjoyed the unique experience of controlling a pulsing tower of flame effects while DJ’s spin dance music for the performers and pubic alike.

Exhibited at Burning Man in 2010, Spire of Fire, by artists Steve Atkins and Eric Smith, towers over 48 feet above the Riverwalk. The tower of pulsing flame effects will be the site of continued fire dance performances by Controlled Burn each Tuesday night at 8:30pm, with “Get Hooped” taking over Wednesdays with Velocity Movement and BoHo Hoops. All of the performances are free to the public, and Tuesdays will feature a beer and wine garden provided by Wild River Grille.

“We believe the ongoing exhibition of Spire of Fire during Artown will ignite the community’s passions in many ways,” said Crimson Rose, Member Board of Directors, BRAF and Art Director for Burning Man. “By enhancing civic space through the temporary transformation of an empty lot into an inviting art space and establishing a creative gathering spot for Reno citizens, BRAF continues to bring the culture of Burning Man to downtown Reno for those who have never experienced the event in the desert.”

During Artown, fire dancers and spinners from Controlled Burn will entertain Tuesday evenings 8:30pm – 10:00pm.

Hula Hoopers from Velocity Movement and BoHo Hoops present “GET HOOPED” at Hoop Jams on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm-8:30pm. All levels and ages are welcome.
