{============================================================} =======================INTRODUCTION========================= {============================================================}
**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/** Well, San Francisco Decompression was last weekend, and it turned out to be a beautiful gathering of the tribe, as it has been for oh so many years … and this year was particularly sweet. Wonderful to see all your shining faces again! Yeah, we missed you.
Now, if you’re in the LA area, you really really must get to LA Decom,TOMORROW (Saturday, October 13) … cuz it’s gonna be awesome.
In the last couple weeks, we’ve had a number of folks send in their accounts of their virgin Burn experiences, which we thought was pretty cool … and we thought you’d enjoy reading them. Oh and that reminds us, you should also take some time (and maybe have a box of tissue at hand) to take a look at the (133 at last count) comments on our “Hey First-Timers! How Was Your Burn?” post on the Burning Blog. Check it out, and maybe add YOUR story:
Out in the Black Rock Desert (remember that place?), the Playa Restoration crew has wrapped up their efforts for 2012, and we’ve got the full recap on the Burning Blog … see below for details!
Oh and lastly … last call to have your 2012 event feedback factored into our planning for 2013. Email it to feedback (at) burningman (dot) com before November 1st. We love your feedback, really. So this is us, thanking you.
The Man burns in 323 days!

PLAYA RESTORATION COMPLETE – MOOP MAP FINAL RESULTS ARE IN!
First off, HUGE props to the Playa Restoration crew, who have been toiling in the Black Rock Desert since the Burn, working to restore the playa back to its original condition, leaving no trace of our having been there. Big ups to DA for his passion, dedication and tireless pursuit of LNT, and his skills in coordinating such a Herculean effort. We exalt you!
Equally big ups to The Hun and Vertumnus for skillfully documenting the whole process so we can watch along in real time, via the Burning Blog. Here’s their final recap of the whole process, so you can see how our whole city did (answer: awesome):
and here’s the whole series, each post from which is worth a read in its own right:

1 MILE CLOCK IN GUINNESS BOOK!
Jim Bowers writes:
“On October 4th, Artist Jim Bowers was notified that the 1MileClock Project (‘Burning Time’) has OFFICIALLY been listed into the Guinness Book of World Records! The 2011 art project created a giant laser clock over the heads of 50,000 Festival goers covering an area of 3.25 miles in circumference and 1.25 miles in diameter. The controversial clock kept accurate time (as opposed to “”playa time””) to within 1/2000 of a second.
This new record creates a brand new category in the Guinness Book entitled ‘World’s Largest Timepiece’. Over 100 Artists and participants on the project are eligible to receive personalized record holder certificates from Guinness. Contact Jimbowers (at) foothill (dot) net for details.
Check out the Clock Project video at http://bit.ly/THtmlj ”

EPIC JOURNEY: KAYDEN KLEINHANS CYCLING TO FROM AFRIKABURN TO BURNING MAN
Kayden Kleinhans has undertaken an epic journey, this from him:
“My mini art installation at AfrikaBurn was a leather bound journal which I placed in the Temple for the duration of the event. The journal was filled with the songs, hopes dreams and aspirations of the AfrikaBurn community. This journal is on board with me and being hand delivered to the temple at the burn in Nevada in 2013. The journey will take 12 months and I am currently in Curitiba the state capital of Parana”.
There is a move for keen burners to join him on the last leg of his journey just before Burning Man next year, cycling from Reno to Black Rock City. Interested in getting involved and joining? Email shani (at) afrikaburn (dot) com.

We’ll admit it. When we first saw the title of this video we thought “UH OH, here we go”. But then we watched it (out of the corner of our eye at first) and found ourselves uber-charmed. Now it’s your turn to enjoy!

THE GIFT PROLIFIC GALLERY AND OPENING
This is pretty rad … check it out. Joshua writes:
“The Gift Prolific is an art project that was created by Joshua Coffy. Everyday since last year’s burn, Josh gave a gift or did something nice for someone. Then he would go home and make a small painting about each day’s gift experience. At this year’s burn he gifted away all of the 333 paintings! Each painting has a number on the back of it and can be tracked on www.theGiftProlific.com. You can read about each gift experience that inspired each piece of art. If you were gifted one of these paintings on the playa Joshua would love to hear from you! Where is the painting? What did you do with it? Did you keep it? Did you gift it away? Do you have a picture? Please check out the site and send Josh an email. Take care.”

PEOPLE IN MOTION SCREENING AT BMHQ – SAN FRANCISCO, CA – OCTOBER 18
WHAT: “People in Motion” Screening plus Q&A with the Filmmaker and Artist, Lonnie Tisdale
WHEN: Thursday, October 18th, 6:45PM-9PM
WHERE: Burning Man HQ, 995 Market Street, 15th Floor San Francisco, CA 94103
Those familiar with the training discipline parkour–or “free running”–know that its push to move creatively and freely throughout the world is more than an exercise routine, it’s a philosophy for life. “People in Motion”, in its focus on parkour, showcases the potential people have to move through time and space. Shot along the West Coast and in Black Rock City and using an original score and composite editing, the film inspires viewers with its fresh perspective on how the individual can move creatively through a number of environments. Just as Burning Man’s Ten Principles inspire Burners to come together as a collaborative community in the face of the harsh Black Rock Desert, parkour’s philosophy of overcoming obstacles is about defeating and adapting to both the mental and physical barriers which surround us every day.
The ninety minute film will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker and parkour practitioner Lonnie Tisdale. The film begins at 7:30p. Light appetizers and a wine and beer bar will be open during the first thirty minutes of the event. Q&A to follow the film. It’s FREE so there’s really no excuse… come on down!
To learn more, check out the film’s website at https://peopleinmotionmovie.com.
