HOW TO AVOID BEING STOPPED AND CITED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT ENTERING BRC
Here are a couple recent blog posts about Law Enforcement activity on playa this year, which has definitely seen an uptick over previous years:
Law Enforcement’s Comin’ to Town: http://bit.ly/189HKVX
and
Law Enforcement in Black Rock City: http://bit.ly/189HGFw
We don’t want to see participants get cited or arrested, nor do you want it to happen to you. So be smart, and stay safe. All Federal, State and Local laws apply to Black Rock City, and Law Enforcement is well within their rights to enforce those laws … they’re doing their job. And we have seen that they are indeed doing so. The way to avoid running afoul of the law is to NOT BREAK THE LAW … handle yourself well, and be prepared to be pulled over for infractions that draw attention.
Take care to tighten up your ship. Make sure that all your taillights, license plate lights, turn signals and headlights are working. Make sure your license plates are not obscured (by bikes, gear, dirt or anything). Wear your seatbelt and go the speed limit (10MPH on Gate Road and 5MPH in Black Rock City … not 1MPH more). Do not drink and drive, do not have an open container in your vehicle, and do not ride on top of your vehicle. Carry current valid drivers license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance. Do not crack a drink until you are parked at your camping spot. Always be polite and respectful to law enforcement officers.
And while Law Enforcement has the right to enforce the law, they do NOT have the right to violate the civil rights afforded you under the Constitution, particularly the 4th Amendment. This video from the ACLU does a good job of explaining what your rights are, and how to protect them at Burning Man … watch it and have your friends watch it too:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11fgr9U1mIk (Preview) The Burning Man organization works hard year-round and on playa to establish a solid working relationship with these agencies, and while there are always growing pains in a new year and with a new BLM crew, we’re committed to cooperative collaboration to create a workable and sensible environment for everybody to enjoy. To that end, we encourage participants to report all interactions with law enforcement — both positive and negative — by filling out a Law Enforcement Feedback Form at Ranger HQ, so we can use that information in our daily on-playa meetings with law enforcement.

BLACK ROCK CITY WEATHER UPDATE
Looks like the weather’s going to be pretty nice for Burn week! Warm during the day, cold at night. The usual. More info? Pick a weather forecast:

WHERE DO I CAMP? IMPORTANT CAMPING INFORMATION
Arriving pre-event? In order to spread the art and love throughout the city this year, if you’re not already with a registered theme camp, we ask that you please camp between G street (GDP) and the outer rim. So yes … no general camping between Esplanade and G street unless you’re with pre-registered theme camp in that area, please!
Thank you!

BURNING MAN LIVE WEBCAST
The Burning Man webcast returns! A new crew has formed this year to take on the live webcast from Black Rock City. The feed will be available starting tonight (if all goes well), and if not then, Sunday (hey, it’s playa time … what?), here:

BMIR STREAMING ON “I HEART RADIO”
If you’re having trouble listening to BMIR on your trip to Burning Man, Burners with “I Heart Radio” have set up a special channel on their mobile apps for the radio station.
In compliance with the 10 Principles, they’ve stripped the channel of all advertising and are doing no promotion around it. The only way you can find it is by doing a search for Burning Man within the app. So here we are giving you the inside scoop … share it with your friends! Oh and it’s only available in the United States, so there’s that.
You can find the channel on their website:
http://www.iheart.com/live/BMIR-945-FM-6378/?autoplay=true
and download the I Heart Radio app here:

Thanks to IHR for their gift of this service to the Burning Man community!
