Commissary

The Burning Man staff Commissary provides vital support during the building of Black Rock City. Many people from several Burning Man departments work hard in the hot desert sun for many hours a day pounding t-stakes, building shade, and moving heavy equipment. The crews appreciate the opportunity the Commissary provides to sit in the shade, sip cold beverages, and eat prepared meals as well as the chance to chat with fellow workers.

The Commissary experienced another shift in management in 2005 when the lead stepped down and the Business Services Department dissolved. The Commissary found a new home in the Department of Public Works (DPW). The transition went smoothly, and work with the vendor went as successfully as it did in 2004.

About this photo...The crew seemed effortless in tackling the large task of feeding several hundred people three times a day while meeting the strict standards of the Nevada Health Department (the same standards as apply to any other food establishment) regardless of the environment. Control of meal usage improved, and a high level of detail was captured in 2005.

The Commissary should experience another successful year in 2006, as good as the last two years. The staff look forward to maintaining the high standards set in the past. It is likely the management structure will again change to further improve the Commissary service.
