JRS Volume #6; Issue #12

JRS/6:12/03.13.02

THIS JRS IS ALL ABOUT BRAF…..what’s a BRAF????

Okay folks, you’ve all heard about the Black Rock Arts Foundation (BRAF), the arts organization that Larry Harvey, Harley K. DuBois, Crimson Rose, Will Roger, Mark VanProuyen and Doug Holloway launched last May, right? Though it’s been a difficult year for non-profit fundraising, BRAF’s done okay. It’s not currently possible to fund a part-time Executive Director’s position, but we will be announcing art grants for 2002 at an awards reception in April. After that point the Foundation will have identified and/or distributed $29,000 in art grants since the inception of the Foundation in May of 2001. Some of this money was specifically ear-marked for fire arts.

The “Art Grant Awards Ceremony and Reception” is still looking for some in-kind donations, volunteer help, and any other sort of contribution for this upcoming special event. There will be a raffle, and items will range as far and wide as we can get donations. I’m personally hopeful of holding a silent auction for some special items, but that leaves to be seen. (hey, i’m always open to hear about your personal experiences doing this kind of thing, and if you have something that might fit into the raffle or auction, let us know!!)

The Black Rock Arts Foundation’s mission statement creates a reach beyond just interactive art at Burning Man, but extends into communities creating interactive art around the world. For more information about BRAF, visit the web site: http://www.blackrockarts.org or come to the event on April 6th.
