ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER POSITION AVAILABLE AT BMHQ

Burning Man is currently in need of an experienced Administrative Manager to oversee the administrative and operational functions of the Burning Man project.  The focus of the job will be managing the administrative functions of the San Francisco office but will also involve some oversight of the administrative functions of satellite offices.  The main functions of this position will be to: Manage staff communication, office projects, the office itself, and oversee the administrative and clerical staff; be responsible for effective communications, information flow, and efficient operations of the office; maintain and oversee day to day Human Resources administration and processes; prepare budget; coach and supervise direct reports.  If this sounds like you and you are dedicated to Burning Man values, please read on!

DOES THIS DESCRIBE YOU??

A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; Three to five years of management experience supervising people and functions in a complex, fast-paced environment; You are detail-oriented with strong oral and written communication skills; Demonstrated success managing projects which involve coordination across departments and with multiple stakeholders; Ability to uphold high standards of confidentiality; Demonstrated ability to analyze, develop, establish, and maintain efficient office work-flow and administrative processes; Knowledge of Burning Man and the ability to adjust your work schedule seasonally to work in Nevada for the event; Your previous co-workers describe you as being organized, friendly, knowledgeable and effective; You are a savvy computer user with advanced knowledge of MS Word and Excel.

CAN YOU DO THIS??

Manage office operations:

* Supervise and coach direct reports, interns, part-time and temporary project staff as needed.
* Coordinate pre and post-event annual office transition between San Francisco and Gerlach; oversee continuity between San Francisco and Gerlach offices during event season.
* Ensure coverage of back up reception functions as necessary. * Coordinate and follow-up on office facility needs to the Facility Manager as necessary.
* Coordinate San Francisco office parties and events as necessary.
* Develop and oversee internship program.
* Develop and oversee the Admin Budget.

Staff communication and information flow:

* Facilitate weekly office meetings and keep office staff updated on Senior Staff information and decisions as necessary.
* Oversee the collection, editing and dissemination of information to Senior Staff, Office Staff and extended staff via meetings, email lists, Extranet and other mediums as necessary.
* Plan logistics for the annual Board and Staff Retreats; manage annual thank you party.
* Help develop, then maintain an Organization-wide Document Retention Program

Human Resources Support:

* Work closely with the Board and outside HR consultants.
* Enforce, review and update Human Resources policies, procedures and processes as needed.
* Oversee and manage benefits administration.  Serve as main contact and work directly with insurance brokers; manage annual benefits renewal.
* Oversee the handling of worker’s compensation claims both year-round and on the playa.
* Serve as a member of the Safety Committee.

OFFICE ASSISTANT POSITION AVAILABLE AT BMHQ

Burning Man is currently in need of an experienced Office Assistant to provide administrative support and receptionist duties for the San Francisco Burning Man office.  The focus of the job will be to act as receptionist for incoming visitors and phone calls and support the Administrative Manager, Human Resources and other office staff with administrative and clerical support.  If this sounds like you and you are dedicated to Burning Man values, please read on!

DOES THIS DESCRIBE YOU??

A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent is preferred but not required; Two to three years of administrative support or clerical experience in a complex, fast-paced environment; You are detail-oriented with strong oral and written communication skills; Strong computer skills, i.e., advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Internet browsers, email clients; strong knowledge of FileMaker Pro and PowerPoint is a plus; Ability to uphold high standards of confidentiality; Strong ability to multi-task; Knowledge of Burning Man and the ability to adjust your work schedule seasonally to work in Nevada for the event; Ability to take direction from more than one person; Your previous co workers describe you as being organized, friendly, knowledgeable and effective

CAN YOU DO THIS??

Reception:

* Greet visitors to the San Francisco Burning Man office.  Receive deliveries.
* Answer main phone line.  Receive messages from hotline, and respond or forward to other staff as necessary.

Administrative Support:

* Oversee office calendaring & coordinate meeting schedules as necessary.  Ensure that rooms are ready for meetings.
* Assist Administrative Manager with updating email lists as necessary.
* Maintain an inventory of office and kitchen supplies, and beverages; ordering more as necessary.
* Assist the Administrative Manager with the annual thank you card mailing and thank you party.
* Assist with planning and coordinating of parties and other events in the San Francisco office with oversight from the Administrative Manager.
* Coordinate and follow-up on office technology needs to Desktop Support as necessary.
* Conduct Internet research projects on a variety of topics as assigned.
* On playa this position will support the administrative and clerical function of the Burning Man Project.  Potentially, this may involve assisting the Gerlach Office Manager in the Gerlach Office.

Human Resources Support:

* Handle incoming employee questions and hand off as needed to the Administrative Manager or Human Resources.
* Handle basic benefits administration (i.e.  processing new paperwork, claim forms, etc.)

Clerical Support:

* Sort mail, meter mail, send packages via courier service.
* Send outgoing faxes for office staff.  Receive, log and deliver incoming faxes.
* Handle larger copy jobs for office staff as necessary.

PYRAMID LAKE CLOSED TO OVERNIGHT CAMPERS

Dear Lovers of Pyramid Lake,

The Paiute Tribal Council has decided to close Pyramid Lake to overnight camping effective Oct. 1st due to graffiti and other disrespectful actions that have occurred there.  The Council is open to receiving letters about this decision.  If you have been touched by this sacred sanctuary and wish to share your love for it, thankfulness for being able to spend time there, ideas for protecting the lake/ guardianship actions, requests for reconsideration of the decision to prohibit camping in the future, or any other comments about your experiences there or otherwise, please send your comments to:
