**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/** Hey looky there! It’s 11/11/11 folks! In honor of this auspicious date, we present an Ales Prikryl photo of the 11:11 project from Burning Man 2011. Lit up at night, this piece was pretty monumental: http://bit.ly/vgyF8S
So, in this edition of the JRS, we bring you some Very Important Information about Burning Man ticket sales. 2011 was a heck of a year, ticket’ly speaking, so we’re making some changes to how we offer tickets to the event. We’ve got a high-level overview below, and more details to come soon…you’ll be the first ones to hear info you won’t want to miss! We’ve heard the rumors that you’re worried that maybe the lack of a theme indicates lack of an event. Fear not! Maybe the ticket info below can help you stop thinking about themes and thinking again about planning to get your tickets!
Finally, before we pitch you headlong into this JRS, we’ll leave you with some food for thought from Caveat Magister, who once again pushes the boundaries of his Burning Blog login (and we mean that in the best possible way) by asking the question: “Is there too much positive energy at Burning Man?” http://bit.ly/s5hzev … perhaps you have an answer?
The Man burns in 295 days! Read on …

IMPORTANT 2012 BURNING MAN TICKET INFORMATION
Changes and improvements are afoot for ticket sales to Burning Man 2012! Here’s a first look at what to expect — stand by for more complete information soon, but for now (we know, you’re wondering!) here’s a quick overview:
2011 provided two compelling reasons to change how tickets are sold: a challenging ticket launch day, and then, our first-ever sold-out event. Before the Man even fell in BRC, we got busy with a deep examination of our processes and technology – and of new ideas, some of them straight from your feedback – to figure out how to provide successful, smooth ticket sales in 2012.
The big news: tickets to Burning Man 2012 will be offered via a lottery system. This solution offers a two-fold benefit: it eliminates the annual ticket sales rush by spreading out registration over time (no more sitting in “line” all day, no more getting kicked out of the queue, no sudden unwieldy server demand!) — and it begins to address the challenges of scarcity. We are also intent upon creating a balance of opportunity across a few months time.
We’ll have more details coming very soon (including deadlines and prices) but here’s a summary of the major changes to how tickets will be obtained:
– You’ll first register for the ticket lottery during a 2-week open registration period. At that time, you’ll declare which of the pricing tiers you’d be willing to pay, and provide a valid credit card number. – After the registration period, we will run separate lotteries for each ticket tier. If your name is selected, at this point your credit card will be billed, and you’ll receive a ticket confirmation. – There will be several consecutive lottery rounds. – You will only be able to purchase tickets from one lottery – Yhere will be a limited number of tickets per person – Ticket fulfillment will be held until early summer.
And YOU, JRS subscriber, will be the first to receive information and get a chance to register! Coming up soon, we will be announcing full details, pricing tiers, dates of the registration period and lottery round announcements, and of course a big fat FAQ.
PRE-SALES: We also announce the return of a limited Pre-Sale, timed around the holidays. These “pre-sale” tickets will be offered at a significantly higher price than the very lowest tier of tickets; they’ll also be sold via a lottery system. (This also affords a chance for us all to experience the lottery program with a smaller subset of ticket buyers before the main rollout begins.)
REDUCED PRICE PROGRAMS: We continue to welcome and support attendance for lower-income participants, so we will be overhauling the Low Income and Scholarship ticket programs in 2012. The two similar programs are being merged into one, to create a hybrid that will retain the best features of each — and serve more people, since we’re also increasing the number of these tickets that will be available.
The JRS and http://tickets.burningman.com should be your primary source of information over any Facebook page, twitter feed, locker room or water cooler chatter”. The first registration will start before the end of November. Read your JRS regularly to be informed.
Got questions now? We know you do!…but please wait until the full details are released before you send us your questions – all will be revealed shortly. DO NOT EMAIL us, we will not answer questions about the ticket process on any of our aliases until all the info is out.
Visit the ePlaya ticket threads at http://bit.ly/BM2012Tickets and discuss and ask questions openly so we can answer in a way that benefits more people.

(UPDATE) BLACK ROCK ARTS FOUNDATION NEW GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS
There was a misprint on the deadline for submissions (it had said December 1, 2012, when it’s actually December 1, 2011). So we thought we’d let you know … and it gives us an excuse to put this back in front of ya, so there. Says BRAF:
“Attention artists! In an effort to streamline our grant application process, the Black Rock Arts Foundation has initiated a new step to our application instructions. To apply for a grant from BRAF, you will now need to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) before submitting a full proposal. If the grant committee feels your project is a potential fit for our grants, you will be invited to submit a full proposal.
This cuts down on the work involved for both you, the grant applicant, and for our grant review committee. You’ll have the chance to give a succinct, one-page overview of your project, and to tell us why you think it’s a good fit for BRAF’s grants program.
Usually, at this time of year, we begin accepting online grant applications. Instead, we’ll accept online LOI’s at this time. Online LOI’s are due December 1, 2011.
To see if your project qualifies for a BRAF grant, and to read our full grant timeline and application instructions, visit www.blackrockarts.org/grants/grant-criteria
Please contact Josie at BRAF with questions, at josie (at) blackrockarts (dot) org.
We can’t wait to hear about your project!”

BURNING IN PISCO, PERU
This is way cool … be sure to check out their pictures, too … totally charming. Wren and Gabby write:
“Hey Playa buddies,
Greetings from way down south! My girlfriend Gabby and I have been traveling South America this year and thus were not able to celebrate on the playa with you all. It was very sad, but a flight from Peru was just too expensive.
Instead of getting too upset about it, we just decided to hold a celebration of our own. We had been volunteering for the last few months at an organization called Pisco Sin Fronteras, a disaster relief group that, as you probably know, started out as a Burners Without Borders project. At any given time there can be anywhere from 60 to 100 crazy international volunteers there . In the midst of all our hard work, we thought, “hey, what a great group with which to celebrate the burn!” So Gabby (the sassy sunshine in yellow) and our friend Pierre (the pirate with a ring-pop) got to work planning all of the logistics in order to make it happen.
We held our big day on the same day that all of you were burning the man up north. A few of us got together to build the man, organize ticket sales to fund booze purchases, get local friends to donate their sound system, and rally the troops. We had about 50 volunteers show up and dance to great vibes. Some brought great food to contribute, some brought ice-cold delectables. We danced and sung and created general debauchery until sundown, when we torched that fucker.
It wasn’t quite the same as the week-long madness in Nevada, but it was the best that we could do with what we had. And it was great. We weren’t expecting everyone to get so into it, but nearly everyone showed up in costume and with a smile on their face.
You all have been so generous in keeping us in the loop, despite our absence from the festival this year, that we wanted to share ours with you. So, if you’ve got a minute, head over to my photo gallery and check ’em out: http://bit.ly/uACdQg.
We can’t wait to see you all on the playa next year!
Big love from down south,
Wren & Gabby”

MUTANT VEHICLE EXHIBITION AT THE NATIONAL AUTOMOBILE MUSEUM
The National Automobile Museum in Reno NV, is hosting an exhibition of Mutant Vehicles, including the very first Mutant Vehicle brought to the playa by our very own Danger Ranger. The exhibit will be on display through July 2012, so you’ll have to catch it before your trip to BRC! More info at: www.automuseum.org (Hot tip about this museum: there are costumes and clothing on display as well – cool stuff!)

It’s pretty cool to see this perspective, and it’s a nice piece of videography from our pal Phoenix.

SEEKING PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO OF THE MATHEMATICIAN’S GARDEN
Adam writes:
“The Mathematician’s Garden is seeking photography and video of our installation. We are especially interested in night photography. The Garden was a metal sculpture of LED-lit flowers surrounding a central burn-barrel fire tree. It was located at 11:45 and 4300, off to the left if you were walking into open playa from the Temple, directly away from the Man. Images to jog your memory are at our Kickstarter and Tumblr pages:
Please send links to your media (if it’s online) or email the files directly to oliner+tmg (at) gmail (dot) com. If they are too large, please contact me at that same address and we can arrange something that is convenient for you. If you wish, we will happily credit you wherever we use the images/video.”
