{============================================================} =======================INTRODUCTION========================= {============================================================}

**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/** When we opened our Pre-Sale registration back in November, we had the opportunity to watch people get in there live, in real-time. We have this cool system that shows graphically where in the world people are registering from … little red dots show up on this map of the globe, one-by-one. We were pretty excited to see them showing up in as varied locales as Africa, Indonesia, Japan, Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe — right off the bat. It was cool to be reminded in that visceral way that we are indeed everywhere, and the culture is growing.

And so … the registration period for the Burning Man ticket Pre-Sale has now ended, and notifications about whether you’ll be receiving tickets will go out via email by December 19th. Remember, if you DON’T get tickets in the Pre-Sale, your registration will automatically roll over to the Main Sale, taking place in January. There’s no need to re-register. If you registered to purchase more than 2 tickets, you will be registered for 2 tickets in the Main Sale (that’s the maximum) at the highest pricing tier (e.g. you’ll be eligible for the draws at all pricing tiers).

For more information about ticket sales, visit http://tickets.burningman.com.

We hope your holiday planning is going well … and with that, read on!

BURNING MAN PROJECT SEEKS FUNDRAISING PROFESSIONALS

Burning Man Project is seeking fundraising professionals to help further its mission! This new nonprofit is dedicated to bringing the values and principles of Burning Man into the greater community, and that enormous task requires funds. We are seeking individuals with the Burning Man ethos who have demonstrated fundraising experience with major gifts, annual giving, online solicitations, and grant applications for nonprofit public benefit organizations. Volunteer and paid positions are being considered over time.

Kindly send a resume and cover letter outlining your experience and enthusiasm to Doron (at) burningmanproject (dot) org or:

THE BAY LIGHTS PROJECT

Internationally renowned artist Leo Villareal has been attending Burning Man continuously since 1994 … in fact, he got his start creating LED and illuminated sculptures for the playa, and is a founder of Disorient. He’s gone on to have his light sculpture and installations presented at museums around the world, including the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Albright Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo. Today, Leo sits on the Burning Man Project Board of Directors and The Black Rock Arts Foundation Advisory Board.

We’re excited to tell you about Leo’s next (and most ambitious) project …

The Bay Bridge, which links San Francisco and Oakland, celebrates its 75th Diamond Anniversary in 2012. To commemorate this auspicious occasion, Leo will create an installation that will turn the bridge into a light sculpture of epic proportions: The Bay Lights Project.

The plan is for Leo and his team to secure arrays of 25,000 energy-efficient white LED lights to the vertical cables of the west span of the bridge, and create elaborate computer-controlled light animations to delight visitors and locals alike.

This amazing sculpture will be in place for two years, including during the America’s Cup yacht races, which are slated to draw an unprecedentedly large international audience to the Bay Area — and we fully support such a grand opportunity to show off San Francisco as a world-class city for the arts.

To learn more and see a video simulation of the project in action, visit www.thebaylights.org. To support the project, please visit www.causes.com/thebaylights.

RAT’S BIKES RENTALS TIME

Rat sez:

“To all the Early Birds out there already asking about bike rentals for BM 2012, yes, Rats Bikes will be taking reservations again. Also, if you’ve gotten bikes from me before, yes, you can go ahead and make your reservations now. If you’re a Newbie to Rats Bike, you’ll be able to make your reservations as early as January 1st, 2012. BLACK ROCK EDUCATORS’ CONSORTIUM

Jennifer writes:

“BREC is getting ready to release it’s early-bird conference flyer in time for all you edu-burners to get your time on the playa approved by your school board prior to the January ticket sale. If you’re an educator looking to meet and confer with other educators on playa, join us noon to 4pm, Weds and Thurs the week of the burn. We’re currently looking for this year’s presenters, as well as building our mailing list to make sure you get your conference flyer prior to that all-important January school board meeting. Shoot our session organizer, Jenn, an email at JennNelson3@gmail.com, or find our page on facebook and ‘like’ us so you can get our flyer as soon as it’s available! Conference flyers are discreet, oblique, and professional looking. If you’ve been trying to figure out how to spend the full week at the burn, this is your chance!”

STRUCTURAL ENGINEER NEEDED FOR LARGE CANADIAN PROJECT AT BURNING MAN

If you didn’t catch The Heart Machine art piece in 2010, it was pretty cool. You can see a video of it in action here: http://vimeo.com/14811237 … well, they’re at it again, and need your help. Christine writes:

“The Canadian Artists who brought The Heart Machine to Burning Man 2010 (Link to Burning Man Honorarium Page: http://tinyurl.com/6t7xn87) are working on a new, larger project involving mixed material, fire and interactivity within a playful sacred space. Our project needs the assistance of a structural engineer to design the internal frame based on the shape of the art and build materials; including the creation of 2D/3D drawings needed to order and assemble internal structural parts we will skin. We are looking to the community as we need a structural engineer who understands both sculptural and Burning Man concepts and philosophies. Volunteer/gifting of your assistance would be fantastic but we can also discuss some compensation to assist with effort as safety third is a nice concept until the structure falls down.

Please email christine.irving (at) gmail (dot) com with the subject line HABITAT. Our group website is www.interactivearts.co ”
