Aaaaand … Burning Man 2013 is a wrap!
And WOW, what a Burn! We had more art, more theme camps, more mutant vehicles and more participants than ever before. And save for a few afternoon windstorms, the weather was the best in years. It was truly a magical week. A lot of you have posted photos and we’ve collected the first batch below.
Now, all this being said, we had our challenges. The biggest was arrival and exodus with wait times ranging from 20 minutes to eight hours or more. We’ll be working on solutions over the next 50 weeks to get this manageable in time for BM 2014. One bright spot was the inaugural Burner Express buses from Reno and San Francisco. We had more than 2,000 tickets sold and nearly all feedback we’ve gotten so far has been positive. We want to expand Burner Express to reduce the number of vehicles at the event, which, naturally should reduce wait times.
Speaking of feedback, we want yours. Email us at feedback (at) burningman (dot) com. We read every single email and incorporate your input into planning for 2014. More on this below.
Lastly, if you liked last week, show some love to your local Regional. The CORE projects you saw this year? That was the Regionals. There are more than 60 burn events around the world and regional groups in every state and dozens of countries. More info here: http://regionals.burningman.com/
We’d like to extend a huge THANK YOU to all of YOU who brought your A-game to Black Rock City this year, making it the most mind-blowing and inspiring experience on the planet. You people absolutely KILLED it out there. We’d also like to thank the hard-working men and women of the Department of Public Works, who toiled in the desert heat to create the infrastructure of Black Rock City so that we could come out and manifest magic together as a community. And the Playa Restoration crew will be on playa for another month, ensuring that we leave NO trace, and can return to do it again.
And while it seems like a big number right now, watch out … it’ll be here before you know it: the Man burns in 358 days!

FEEDBACK LOOP: TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!
Burning Man 2013 is in the bag! We want your feedback. Your thoughts, concerns, questions, and reflections will factor into our planning for 2014!
The staff reads every word and your input becomes a part of our annual staff debrief process. We’re always open to your feedback, but we’ll be closing the Feedback Loop November 1 to head into our meetings, so please act fast. Stand up and be heard! Email feedback (at) burningman (dot) com with your thoughts.
Note: while we do respond to some feedback emails, we aren’t able to respond to every message. Subjects generating a lot of public comment (ahem: Ingress and Exodus) will be addressed in the Q&A section of the annual Afterburn Report.
**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**
BLACK ROCK CITY CENSUS – PLEASE PARTICIPATE!!
The Black Rock Census you used to fill out on the playa has migrated online and we need you to fill it out again this year. Think of it as a civic duty. We’ve used data from the Census to show politicians how much money we spend in Nevada, to show community leaders the value of burner-driven civic projects around the country and to demonstrate to the press that we are worldwide and growing.
The Census is anonymous, only takes a few minutes to complete, and because it’s digital, we’ll have data up for you to see quickly.
Fill it out. It’s the right thing to do. Here’s the form:
**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**
LAW ENFORCEMENT FEEDBACK
Did you have or witness an encounter with law enforcement on the playa? Whether positive or negative, we want to know about it. We use this information to work with law enforcement to improve our relations, improve their interactions with our community and to ensure your constitutional and civil rights are being protected while in Black Rock City. And we can’t be successful in that effort if we don’t have your stories.
So please, take a moment to download, fill out and mail us a Law Enforcement Feedback Form (PDF), here:
http://www.burningman.com/on_the_playa/le_feedback.html
**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**
LAWYERS FOR BURNERS
If you got arrested or received a citation on playa, don’t feel like you’re in it alone. A grassroots volunteer organization called Lawyers For Burners may be able to help you with finding a lawyer or legal advice. Visit their website for more information:
http://www.lawyersforburners.com
Tip: to contact LFB, fill out their Feedback Form (linked from the left hand column), and they’ll be in touch.
**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**/**
LOST AND FOUND
Did you lose something on playa and want it back? Did you find something and want to return it to its rightful owner? Don’t despair – hundreds of happy Burner-and-stuff reunions have been achieved post-event, so check here before you call your beloved possession gone for good:

PLEASE HELP BURNING MAN’S PANELS GET INTO SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST 2014!
When we aren’t reuniting people with their stuff, de-mooping the playa or brainstorming new themes, we’re often on the road sharing what’s unique about Burning Man with festival organizers, civic groups and like-minded people out to make the world a better place.
We’ve presented at SXSW before and we’ve submitted three panels for the 2014 event. If you like what you see, we’d appreciate your vote. The deadline is TODAY (Yes, if it weren’t for the last minute, nothing would get done, we know).

WE ARE TRULY A GLOBAL VILLAGE
“It doesn’t seem all that long ago when everyone at Burning Man came from California and the only language spoken was English. This year, in a single night, I overheard conversations in Russian, Japanese, Mandarin, Dutch, German, French, Portuguese, Afrikaans, and a half-dozen other tongues I couldn’t ID.”

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING ART IN BLACK ROCK CITY!!
Here’s a big thank you to everybody who supported Burning Man projects this year … whether it was a financial contribution, a donation, or volunteering your time and talents, the fruits of your generosity sure did show on playa! We saw more art projects in Black Rock City than ever before (over 400 installations!), including more fire art than ever (over 100 pieces!), and 550 incredible mutant vehicles.
While it does seem during the thick of the fundraising season that we’re getting inundated by requests for support, the end result is that more people have the opportunity to contribute to these projects, making them truly community-generated creations. So thank you!

POST-PLAYA TIPS
We’ve assembled a collection of helpful post-playa tips to help you clean your stuff, your car, yourself, even your brain. We’ve even got some tips about getting yourself ready for next year. Yep, this is us, loving you.

Also, here’s a nice article we came across about how to cope with post-playa depression (which is a very real thing and not uncommon, folks) – maybe it’s up your alley: http://bit.ly/OZXvYF
And a pretty funny (because it’s true) one, entitled “Do not divorce your parakeet yet”:
Finally, one great cure for post-playa blues is to connect with other Burners. Here’s how:
