About Us

Burning Man Project is the nonprofit in service to the global culture of Burning Man. Its mission is to facilitate and extend the culture that has emerged from the Burning Man event into the larger world and, in doing so, the nonprofit serves as the central hub of a global arts and cultural network inspired by the Ten Principles and united in the pursuit of a more creative, connected and thriving existence. Through artistic and cultural pursuits, civic engagement, and social enterprise, participants in Burning Man’s growing network take the shared Burning Man ethos into new realms of human endeavor every day.

The nonprofit’s work is organized around the following interconnected program areas which guide BMP’s efforts to inspire and connect individuals, strengthen communities, and promote creativity in public life:

Burning Man Arts

Burning Man Arts aims to shift the role of art from object to a participatory, shared experience, both at the Burning Man event and globally. The program supports interactive, participatory creative expression through grants, public art, exhibitions, and civic installations.

Civic Involvement

Civic Engagement fosters volunteerism, public service, and creative placemaking in communities. It manifests in through the work of Burners Without Borders, Regional Network events, public art, and civic infrastructure projects, including infrastructure relating to nonprofit gatherings.

Culture

The Cultural Center develops and operates spaces that showcase and incubate Burning Man arts, culture, and community participation. These include temporary, virtual, or physical gathering spaces, galleries, archives, and community hubs, both urban and rural, that support collaboration, education, and connection.

Education

Education shares Burning Man’s culture, principles, and skills through workshops, trainings, and seminars. Topics range from interactive art and nonprofit operations to leadership, project management, safety, and government engagement.

Philosophical Center

The Philosophical Center supports the exploration and documentation of the Ten Principles through research, publications, and curated dialogue. As the nonprofit’s cultural think tank and documentarian, it creates and publishes content and maintains a living archive of Burning Man’s evolving ethos.

Social Enterprise

Social Enterprise supports mission-aligned organizations through fiscal sponsorship, shared services, and community certification. It promotes responsible, principle-driven initiatives and encourages collaboration among public benefit projects.

Burning Man Project is a 501(c)(3) public benefit organization with its principal offices in San Francisco, CA and Reno, NV.
