Art Discovery experiences are offered by ARTerian volunteers as a way for Black Rock City participants to experience the highlights of the art on playa. Initially geared specifically toward participants with mobility challenges, we now offer many different options for exploring the incredible art in BRC.
Please stop by the ARTery at 6:30 and Esplanade or read through the details below if you are interested in participating. The ARTery’s hours are 9:00am to 6:00pm every day and we would love to see you!
Art Discovery on Mutant Vehicles for Mobility-Challenged Participants
For mobility-challenged folks and friends, we offer guided Art Discovery experiences by trained ARTerian volunteers on mutant vehicles from10:00am to 12:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, weather permitting. Art Discovery tours may include meet-ups with artists and their artworks. These tours depart from Mobility Camp. Sign up at Mobility Camp.
Mobility-challenged is defined as:
- People with health issues that affect their ability to get around
- Pregnant persons
- Parents with small children
- Seniors
Bringing a companion to assist you is welcome. Assistance will be available to board the mutant vehicles.
Art Discovery with American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters on Mutant Vehicles
For deaf participants and friends, we offer guided Art Discovery experiences by trained ARTerian volunteers with ASL interpreters on mutant vehicles from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Wednesday and Thursday, weather permitting. Art Discovery by Bike
Morning guided bike tours start at 10:00am on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Sunset bike tours start at 7:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Meet at the bright pink Art Discovery sign across from the ARTery at 6:30 and Esplanade, and look for the guide with the big pink flag. Participants can choose to tour one of the four quadrants of the open playa with a trained guide; join at any point and come and go as you please. Sign-ups are not needed; just show up at the pink sign and ride along with your fellow art lovers for fun and discovery.
Art Discovery on Foot
Guided walking tours go from 10:00 to 12:00pm on Tuesday through Friday. Join a trained Art Department guide for a leisurely walking tour of the inner playa and explore the art up close. Meet at the bright pink Art Discovery sign in front of the ARTery at 6:30 and Esplanade; look for the guide with the pink Art Discovery flag.
Art Speaks
Burning Man Project’s official artist storytelling series will be hosted at the Mansonian Institute 4 Urban Study, located at 6:30 and Baffle. The talks will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 1:00pm to 2:30pm and will include the following amazing artists:
