Come Volunteer with Playa Info!

From our shady spot at Black Rock City’s center at Esplanade & 5:45, we are the central hub for answers, orientation, and information, dedicated to sharing the principles and culture of the Burning Man Project.

Playa Info Is Here to Help

Open daily during the event from 9am to 6pm, we offer access to:

  • Volunteers ready to help anyone who is struggling to solve a problem on playa
  • Maps, diagrams, bulletin boards, and quick reference materials
  • Black Rock City’s official Lost & Found
  • Twenty-four–hour digital directories listing placed camps and events, as well as cataloged items held by Lost & Found
  • Access to locksmith and tow services

Playa Info Volunteers Give the Gifts of…

Orientation

Help participants navigate Black Rock City with confidence. You will bridge the gap between “where is it?” and “what does it mean?” for newcomers and experienced Burners alike. Combine your analog experience with digital tools to make the complexity of the city approachable.

Connection

Weave together Black Rock City’s community fabric. You will actively connect participants with camps, art installations, services, and one another. Serve as the connective tissue that makes Black Rock City feel like a community, not just a city.

Resilience

Provide stability when Black Rock City feels overwhelming — a steady presence in the dust. You will ensure critical information and support flow quickly when circumstances change, functioning as a safety net for orientation, emotional grounding, and crisis response.

Roles for All Skills, Interests, and Abilities

Playa Info is building a diverse team of volunteers to help create a welcoming space.

  • People Skills: If you enjoy answering questions and helping folks who are having a rough day, this is for you.
  • Front of House: Work with participants to welcome them and reunite them with their found items.
  • Detail-Oriented: We need people to help us log the hundreds of items turned into the Lost & Found.

Who are we looking for?

  • Volunteers with good people skills and a desire to help participants — some of whom may be having a very bad day
  • Experienced Burners who love information and answering questions
  • Outgoing people to work the “front of the house” and to reunite participants with their found items
  • Detail oriented people who would be happy to help us log the hundreds of items turned into Lost & Found

What we ask of you

Playa Info is looking for people to help us create a welcoming space to orient, connect, and foster resilience.

  • Most of our volunteers work 5 hour shifts (complete with breaks, snacks, and shade) during the day.
  • You must complete online training before you arrive in Black Rock City.
  • We also have opportunities for those who want to come to Black Rock City early or stay late to build and strike the Playa Info space.
  • While some roles require that you have participated in Burning Man at least once before, we do have roles for new Burners too.

What we offer you in return

  • The chance to make new friends from around the world while helping Black Rock City residents navigate what can feel like a very big and wild place.
  • A place to learn about the inner workings of  Black Rock City.
  • A sweet Playa Info staff laminate. There’s a new design each year.

How to Apply?

We’d love to have you join our team!

  1. Fill out a Volunteer Questionnaire and select Playa Info as your area of interest. NOTE: You must create — and be signed into — a Burner Profile in order to proceed.
  2. Watch your email for a reply from our volunteer coordinators!
