Burning Man Project’s Artist Storytelling Series

Back in the Spring of 2020 when we were unable to build Black Rock City, a bunch of artists were ready to work on mind-blowing installations without a desert home to build them in. Meanwhile, various teams at Burning Man Project were experimenting with creative ways of producing virtual events for the community. Simultaneously, Burning Man Project’s Art Department began exploring pathways for storytelling about Burning Man art and artists.

These paths converged and our artist storytelling series ArtSpeaks emerged from the digital dust. Every episode since has been built around a theme that highlights stories from a rotating cast of Burning Man artists. As the series evolved, Burning Man Project Associate Director of Art Management Katie Hazard and her team explored everything from fire art to sustainability to playa magic, sharing stories of creative inspiration from artists around the world.
