Work with Burning Man Project
It takes a special kind of human to want to work for Burning Man Project, the nonprofit that produces Black Rock City and supports the global Burning Man culture and community. We’re grateful for your curiosity and desire to contribute.
We’re based out of offices in San Francisco, Reno, and Gerlach, though many of our folks work remotely from around the United States. We enthusiastically encourage Black, Indigenous, Peoples of Color, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, formerly incarcerated applicants, female-identified individuals, and people with disabilities, of all ages, to apply.
Burning Man Project is an organization that supports personal growth and co-learning. We offer extended benefits, access to mentorship, a smorgasbord of educational resources, and endless opportunities to deepen connections within the vibrant Burning Man community.

Year-round Staff
Burning Man is alive 365 days a year! Our staff bring the nonprofit program areas to life in order to advance a more connected and thriving world influenced by Burning Man’s creative culture.
A year-round team supports global Burning Man culture and community through programs, content, and administration, including the nonprofit’s signature annual Burning Man event in Black Rock City, for which the planning and production begins the day after the Man burns.
It takes a remarkable kind of person to want to help build something as bold as Burning Man — not just a city in the desert, but a global cultural movement.
Seasonal Event Staff
The Black Rock City event in Nevada, held annually in late August, offers a number of seasonal roles, for which recruitment begins in the spring. Seasonal Black Rock City roles in administration, technology, and the Department of Public Works among other teams — are active between May and October and play a key role in bringing more creativity and joy to the world.
It’s a huge lift to support a temporary city in one of the world’s most inhospitable environments. Depending on the team, role, and skill set, many of our staff work during the event in Black Rock City. Seeing and being a part of building the city from the ground up is a memorable experience.
Volunteers Are Staff, Too!
Black Rock City has no “attendees”–everyone is a participant because it requires everyone’s efforts, creativity and passion to manifest the temporary city. Participants are encouraged to join one or more of Black Rock City’s teams as a volunteer.
Volunteers, seasonal and full time employees are all part of the Burning Man Project staff. Many year-round employees began as volunteers. Similarly, many employees who no longer work for Burning Man Project continue to volunteer in Black Rock City and beyond.
